TELLURIDE — A 50-year-old Huntington Beach, Calif., woman died after falling into a creek while helicopter skiing with Telluride-based Helitrax.

Mary Scott King was snowboarding near the Mineral Creek drainage Saturday when she “lost her balance and fell backward into a small brook,” said Helitrax guide Hilaree O’Neil.

King’s helmet became wedged beneath an undercut rock in the stream. She did not have a pulse when she was pulled from the creekbed after about 8 to 10 minutes.

King’s death was the first in Helitrax’s 28 years.
