A black Toyota Tundra was carjacked near the Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center at 6:20 a.m. this morning, according to Denver police.
A man was in the Tundra at a stop sign at Tremont Place and East 21st Avenue when a man approached with a gun and told the driver to get out of the car, said Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the police department.
At that point, the carjacker opened the door, pulled the driver out and hit him with the butt of the gun, said Jackson.
Responding officers spotted the hijacked Tundra near East 21st Avenue and Race Street but lost the vehicle. A short time later, the Tundra was recovered in an alley in the vicinity of East 31st Avenue and High Street.
Jackson said police set up a perimeter but believe the suspect has fled the area.
Jackson said the carjack victim had very minor injuries.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com
