DENVER—A proposal to show movies in Denver’s best-known park has some residents steamed. That’s because the proposal would mean visitors to Civic Center Park would have to pay as much as $20 to get in.

The proposal by a company called U.S. Open Air LLC would bring movies to the park near the state Capitol this summer. For about a month, the park would show movies on a large screen, with a portion of the park closed except to those who have bought tickets.

Some say the park should remain free and open to all.

The Denver City Council planned a public hearing and vote on the movie proposal Tuesday.
