The Rockies are bringing back a familiar face to compete for a bench job, signing outfielder Jay Payton to a minor-league deal today.
Payton played with the Rockies several years ago, enjoying the best years of his career.
He will compete for a reserve spot on the roster in spring training.
The Rockies also signed Paul LoDuca earlier this week.
