BRIGHTON, Colo.—The founder of an Adams County software company has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of his former business partner.

Prosecutors and sheriff’s officials said Friday that 58-year-old William Rex Fowler was arrested and charged in the death Dec. 30 of 42-year-old Tommy Ciancio, who had three gunshot wounds to the head.

Officers responding to the shooting found Fowler also was shot in the head, but he survived.

Investigators say Cianico had resigned from Fowler’s company, Fowler Software Design, in November over business disagreements and was meeting Fowler to receive a settlement check on the day he was shot.
