One person is in critical condition this afternoon after a fire started on a couch in an Aurora three-story apartment building.
At 3:15 p.m., the Aurora Fire Department received a call about smoke coming from the door of a ground level apartment at 14439 E. 1st Drive, according to a press release.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and the victim was treated and transported to a hospital.
The fire did not spread to any other units and no other tenants were evacuated. Damage is estimated at $20,000.
A dog was rescued from the fire and is recovering at a local veterinary clinic, but two other pets died.
