COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs is saving money by getting rid of trash cans in neighborhood parks.
The city announced Monday that it’s removing about 400 trash bins from 128 parks within the next two weeks. The city says it will save $5,700 a year on trash bags and containers.
The city’s Parks Department has lost 27 maintenance jobs because of budget cuts this year. Parks officials are asking residents to keep parks clean on their own by taking trash home with them.
Trash cans will remain at community sports parks such as baseball fields.
