FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Pennsylvania man has been convicted of murdering a Colorado transient more than a decade ago.
Forty-eight-year-old David Lee Griffin was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder after jurors deliberated seven hours.
Griffin killed a 49-year-old transient who was found dead under a train trestle in 1998. Gary Martin Birks had been killed by more than 100 blows to the head and body.
Police linked Griffin to the crime in 2008 through a federal DNA database. At the time of his arrest Griffin was serving a prison sentence for auto theft in Pennsylvania.
Sentencing has been set for March 10.
