Dennis Tjaden, longtime boys basketball coach and athletic director at Julesburg- Sedgwick County, recently was named coach of the year in the Southwest Region by the National Federation of State High School Associations. Now retired from coaching, Tjaden’s teams were 285-179 from 1986-2009, won three Colorado championships and finished runner-up in 1990. He was voted coach of the year by The Denver Post three times. Tjaden was chosen from a field of coaches in Colorado, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
