Damian Martinez Jr. may want to be a firefighter when he grows up.
Damian was delivered early Tuesday in a Westminster apartment by a Westminster Fire Department crew.
The Fire Station No. 2 crew, headed by paramedic Duane Linkus, arrived at the apartment, near Federal Boulevard and West 92nd Avenue, at 3:58 a.m. and set up for a “field delivery” in the bedroom. Within a minute, Vanessa Martinez gave birth.
Martinez and Damian were taken by ambulance to a hospital. They are now at home and doing fine.
One year ago to the day that Damian Jr. was born, Westminster Fire handled another surprise delivery. On Jan. 26, 2009, Cassandra Garcia gave birth to Daniel Hurtado in an ambulance on U.S. 36.
