Colorado peace activist Sonia Bawa (1989-2005) lived by the credo “Cancer caused her pain, but war made her cry.” Before her death at age 15, she raised money for victims of the World Trade Center 9/11 attack and worked with the Red Cross. Colorado Humanities’ Black History Live Series celebrates Black History Month with a program featuring Hasan Davis. Davis will take the stage as Angus Augustus Burleigh, a 19th century ex-slave, who at age 16 enlisted in the Union Army and went on to become an educator, scholar and minister. Davis holds a law degree, serves on the Federal Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, and owns his own business that focuses on youth development.
