BOULDER, Colo.—A new report shows that the Boulder fire department’s response times to fires and other emergencies are lagging behind national standards.

The report says Boulder firefighters met the national standards only about 65 percent of the time last year. That’s down from 80 percent in 2007.

National standards say nine out of 10 times, fire crews should arrive within six minutes of a 911 call and supporting crews should arrive within 11 minutes.

The report attributes Boulder’s failure to meet that goal in part on more traffic and heavier workloads due to budget cuts.

The Boulder department is in the middle of a two-year update of its master plan.

The City Council will discuss the report at a Feb. 9 study session.
