Arapahoe Basin’s eighth annual Beacon Bowl is the most fun you’ll ever have with an avalanche beacon, guaranteed. Saturday’s benefit event for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center is an avalanche transceiver search competition for recreational backcountry visitors and professional rescuers. Prizes are awarded for the fastest search times. A raffle and auction will offer additional goodies, including ski passes, a cruiser bike, a ‘cat skiing tour, concert tickets and gear aplenty. The Ski Patrol will start the Beacon Bowl competition at 10 a.m. along with free beacon clinics from 10 a.m. to noon. A telemark ski clinic will be conducted for all abilities from 9:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or 1:15-3:30 p.m., for $55. Afterward, the party and live auction sponsored by New Belgium Brewery crank up on the first floor of the A-Frame. Pizza and beer sales will be donated to the CAIC.
