DENVER—Colorado lawmakers are proposing licensing medical marijuana centers for people who have more than five patients.

A bill being introduced Wednesday would also require an 18-month time out on new dispensaries.

Democratic Sen. Chris Romer of Denver says Colorado needs to rein in the industry but still honor the will of voters who approved medical marijuana in 2000.

Advocates say they will introduce their own initiative on Thursday to regulate dispensaries because they believe lawmakers are being too strict.
