GREELEY, Colo.—The missing cremated remains of a former Weld County resident have been returned to his family two weeks after they were stolen from the family home.

A woman found the blue velvet mortuary bag containing the ashes of John Gerry while walking her dog near a mobile home park and returned it to the deceased’s family.

Gerry died in October, and his family was waiting to scatter his ashes on the family farm he worked for more than 50 years. The ashes went missing from Gerry’s farmhouse last month when the family was away. A gun safe, ammunition and some tools were also taken during a break-in.
