Castle View tight end Jade Pender signed Wednesday with Texas-San Antonio, a start-up program that secured its first recruiting class and will begin play as a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) team in 2011. The Roadrunners will start practices this fall. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Pender, an all-Foothills League player in Class 4A, helped the Sabercats go 7-4 in 2009. Pender is the only non-Texan in the Roadrunners’ 27-member recruiting class. Pender’s new head coach is Larry Coker, who led the Miami Hurricanes to a 60-15 record from 2001-06, including the 2001 national championship. Neil H. Devlin, The Denver Post
