It will take a keen eye — and maybe a remote control — to key in on the matchup of the Saints’ interior offensive line and the Colts’ defensive front in Sunday’s Super Bowl. But what happens in the trenches will help dictate the success of the Saints’ passing game.

Jahri Evans, a 2009 Pro Bowler, anchors a Saints offensive line that on Wednesday was honored as the best in the NFL, winning the Madden most valuable protector award. Daniel Muir has quietly helped the Colts establish a solid run defense.

The Saints have averaged 131.6 rushing yards per game. The Colts’ run defense has been particularly strong in the postseason, though, including holding the Jets to only 86 yards rushing in the AFC championship game.

“They have a nice rotation and they’ve been clogging up that middle real good,” Indianapolis defensive end Raheem Brock said of the Colts’ interior defensive line.
