Several members of the have been “suspended from competition,” after a report of consuming alcohol, the school district told 9NEWS on Friday.
Cherry Creek athletic director Randy McCall would not say how many students were punished, nor the names of the swimmers, nor which meets the swimmers are suspended from.
The news comes one week before the Class 5A state swim meet in Fort Collins. The Bruins have won the 5A state championship the last five years and have won 25 state titles since 1974.
Aside from the state meet on Feb. 13, the only other meet left on the winter sports calendar is the Centennial League meet this Saturday at Arapahoe.
Cherry Creek has not yet submitted a list of swimmers who will compete at the state meet. If any of the swimmers are suspended from state, the team would be able to insert another swimmer in their place, provided that swimmer has an acceptable qualifying time.
