DENVER—The Regional Transportation District will receive a $300 million loan from the federal government to modernize Union Station into the FasTracks transportation hub and $80 million in federal grants for the FasTracks project.
Federal Transit Administration chief Peter Rogoff announced the funding boosts alongside Mayor John Hickenlooper and Sen. Michael Bennet at a reception at Union Station Friday.
Metro Denver voted in 2004 to add a 0.4 percent sales tax to help pay for FasTracks, but construction costs have been higher than expected while tax collections have been lower than predicted.
