A federal official says the government is taking a deliberate approach in the second round of leases for oil-shale research on public land in western Colorado and eastern Utah.
Alan Gilbert, a senior adviser to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, said Friday that state and federal experts will review the applications for the new round of research and development leases.
He said federal officials will look closely at the proposals’ economic and technical feasibility.
