COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—An officer responding to what turned out to be a 911 misdial shot and killed a dog, which died in front of the dog’s 13-year-old owner.
Commerce City police spokesman Chris Dickey says the dog, a 35-pound mixed breed named Zoey, tried to attack an officer. Police say Zoey was one of three “large vicious dogs” that confronted officers responding to the home Wednesday.
Homeowner Frank Agazio said he had misdialed 911 while programming a phone.
Dickey said the officer had pepper spray, but opted to use her firearm because she felt her life was in danger. Thirteen-year-old Maria Agazio told Denver station KUSA-TV that she saw Zoey on the ground twitching as she died.
