The Metro State baseball team came back from a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning and three in the ninth for a 7-4 win Saturday over CSU-Pueblo (2-2) at Rawlings Field in Pueblo. The Thunderwolves won the nightcap 9-2.

Right fielder Zach Krueger tied the game at 4-4 with a three-run home run in the seventh for the Roadrunners (2-2). He also homered in the ninth to put Metro up 5-4, and shortstop Bradshaw Perry added insurance with a two-run homer.

In the nightcap, Thunderwolves starter Juaquin Montano (1-0) limited Metro to two runs on five hits in seven innings. Shortstop Mark Sayas backed Montano with three RBIs, and left fielder Jon Proesel added a two-run homer.

• Colorado Mines (1-1) opened its season by scoring four runs in the seventh to beat Midland Lutheran 6-5, then lost the nightcap 8-3.

Shortstop Craig Matsuda brought Mines to within 5-4 on a two-run homer in the seventh, and first baseman Elliott Riege won the game with a bases-loaded single.

Sanders helps Buffs defeat BYU.

University of Colorado freshman Erin Sanders started her college career in style, clinching a win at No. 5 singles as CU (3-2) defeated BYU 4-3, the Buffs’ first women’s tennis victory over the Cougars (2-4) in 22 tries.

Sanders, who won the state 5A title as a sophomore at Ponderosa High School, lost to Romina Nedakovic 6-1 in the first set but rallied for 6-3, 6-1 wins. CU got victories from Melisa Esposito at No. 2 singles, Camila Belassi at No. 3 and Ania Anuszkiewicz at No. 6.
