LOVELAND, Colo.—Police say a Loveland mother accused in the death of her 3-week-old girl sometimes left the infant with strangers to go to parties and sometimes kept the child in a cold garage.

Loveland police say in an arrest affidavit that the day they found 20-year-old Kaylynn Marie Davis’ baby in a garage the temperature low had been just below 44 degrees. The child, Summer Moon Hawk, was the first baby born at McKee Medical in 2010. Police found the baby dead on Jan. 25.

Police say the Colorado Department of Human Services were investigating Davis because when her daughter was born the baby tested positive for THC, a chemical in marijuana.

Davis is charged with child abuse resulting in death and is being held on $300,000 bail.
