Colorado anglers looking for public-access points to eight of the state’s top trout streams can shorten their search with the set of digital maps on the recently published Colorado Fishing Maps compact disc.

The CD features maps of the Colorado, Blue, Yampa, Rio Grande, Eagle, Gunnison headwaters, Poudre and Laramie rivers. Each river map can be viewed in an Adobe Acrobat format with 8 1/2 x 11 pages, which can be printed in full color. The number of maps per stream depends on river length, ranging from four for the Eagle River to 13 for the Yampa. Each river has a quick overview and hatch chart.

The CDs ($39.95) can be purchased at , the Blue Quill Angler in Evergreen and the All About Colorado shop at the Castle Rock Outlet Stores. Maps for individual rivers are available at and cost $7.95 to $10.95 per set.

Fly-tying clinic.

The 34th annual Fly Tying Clinic sponsored by the West Denver Chapter of Trout Unlimited is Saturday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. It will feature 57 of the top tiers from the Rocky Mountain Region. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and tickets are $10 ($2 off coupons are available in area fly-fishing shops; children 13 and younger are admitted free). Proceeds will benefit the chapter’s conservation efforts and education programs.

Meyers proposal.

At its meeting Thursday in Denver, the Colorado Wildlife Commission will take up the proposal to rename the so-called Dream Stream on the South Platte River to “Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area.” A date for a formal dedication will be announced if it clears the commission.

Charlie Meyers was the outdoors writer at The Denver Post and worked at The Post for more than 40 years. Meyers died Jan. 5 after a two-year battle with lung cancer.
