CENTENNIAL, Colo.—Attorneys are set to deliver opening arguments in the trial of a man accused of running a red light and causing a crash that killed two women and a child waiting for ice cream at a store.
Francis M. Hernandez faces three counts of vehicular homicide and other charges when his trial begins Wednesday morning in Arapahoe County. Authorities say he struck a truck as it was making a turn into a strip mall in the Denver suburb of Aurora on September 2008. Police say the impact sent the truck into an ice cream shop, killing 3-year-old Marten Kudlis and the two women in the truck, Patricia Guntharp and passenger Debra Serecky.
Authorities say Hernadez had a lengthy driving record and was in the country illegally from Guatemala.
