DENVER—Prosecutors say DNA has led them to a man accused of raping a woman almost a decade ago.

The Denver District Attorney’s office filed charges Tuesday against 54-year-old Leonard Loftin after being notified of a DNA match in the 2000 case. Loftin was already in prison for an unrelated case.

Loftin is accused of pulling a 42-year-old woman into a Denver alley and raping her. Prosecutors say the woman eventually escaped.

Loftin is charged with second-degree kidnapping and sexual assault. He’s due in court Feb. 24.
