You have to be invited to compete in the Winter X Games. The Aspen/Snowmass Open, not so much. But if it makes them feel better, skiers and snowboarders can consider this their official invitation to compete on the Winter X Games 14 slopestyle course and 22-foot superpipe at Buttermilk Mountain before they open to the public next week. The fifth annual event kicks off with ski superpipe and snowboard slopestyle qualifying Thursday and continues with men’s and women’s competition through Sunday. Training opens today. And by open, we mean to everyone who registers to compete for a portion of the $50,000 prize purse. Shaun White is not invited. But you are.
