CENTENNIAL, Colo.—Prosecutors are presenting more testimony in the trial of an illegal immigrant accused of causing a crash that killed a 3-year-old boy at an ice cream shop and two women in a truck.

Francis M. Hernandez is on trial on charges that include vehicular homicide for the September 2008 crash in the Denver suburb of Aurora. Opening arguments began Wednesday and jurors heard emotional testimony from the child’s mother, who clutched a bag containing her son’s shoes on the witness stand.

Authorities allege Hernandez ran a red light and was speeding when he struck a truck and sent it crashing into Baskin Robbins.

Killed in the crash were Marten Kudlis and the two women in the truck, Patricia Guntharp and passenger Debra Serecky.

Testimony continues Thursday.
