PUEBLO, Colo.—A Colorado State Fair executive who oversaw the accounting department has been fired and is now the subject of a criminal investigation.

Janelle Gonzales, the fair’s director of administrative service, was fired on Feb. 3, more than two weeks after she was placed on administrative leave as part of an ongoing internal investigation. General Manager Chris Wiseman declined to give details.

Pueblo County District Attorney Bill Thiebaut says his office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are investigating.

A working phone number for Gonzales, who has used the last names Garcia and Esperanza, could not be found. She’s been with the fair for seven years and was a staff member for former Gov. Roy Romer and then-U.S. Rep. Mark Udall, now a U.S. senator.
