Many Colorado government offices will be closed today as thousands of state employees take another furlough day ordered by Gov. Bill Ritter to help save money.

About 15,500 state employees were told to take eight unpaid days off to save about $27.2 million in the 2009-10 fiscal year, which ends June 30. Two more furlough days are scheduled, on April 2 and May 28.

Not all state workers are subject to furloughs. Troopers patrolling the state’s highways are among those who will still be working today.
