Katarina Witt, a 1988 Olympic gold medalist, doesn’t mind controversies in figure skating judging. An American judge has set off an international debate about bias after he sent more than 60 e-mails to North American judges, pushing them to give credit only when credit is due. The e-mails were sparked by Russia’s Evgeni Plushenko admitting he received points for transitions he didn’t do during the European Championships. Witt said scoring controversies will always be part of the game. “It’s what makes this sport so exciting,” said the 44-year-old, who was mobbed at the Olympic Superstore in Vancouver. “You don’t sit there with a watch to see someone going faster than the other. This is what makes this sport so special and different.”
