With Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper stuck in Washington this week because of the East Coast snowstorms, the mayor’s scheduler looked to the upper reaches of Frontier Airlines for a little help.

She lobbed an e-mail to the assistant for Sean Menke, the chief executive of Frontier Airlines, seeing what could be done.

As of Friday, the mayor’s office had not responded to a Denver Post request to see the contents of the e-mail and the reply. But both the mayor’s chief of staff, Roxane White, and Menke confirmed the e-mail.

White and Menke denied that the mayor received any preferential treatment. Hickenlooper was rebooked on a flight that left Washington on Thursday, which is standard practice, Menke said.

Menke added that it’s not unusual for his office to get calls and e-mails from the offices of businessmen and other officials struggling when inclement weather disrupts flight plans. He said he always follows the airline’s protocol, which involves rebooking at no cost as seats become available. The mayor did not bump any other passengers, Menke said. Christopher N.
