World champion Evan Lysacek said today he is having problems with his left foot again and is not planning on a quad jump. He fell on a quad at last month’s National Championships and finished second. He didn’t try a quad in last year’s World Championships after recovering from a stress fracture and finished first.
“It really did hurt when I was doing a lot of quads,” Lysacek said. “Going to the World Championships last year was a really tough time, wondering if every day I was going to be able to compete and make it the next couple of weeks. I didn’t want my Olympic experience to be like that.”
Lysacek asked his doctor in Los Angeles and he told him to not do anything that would bother it. The men’s short program is Tuesday. Lysacek said he still has the quad in his arsenal if he feels he needs it.
“As far as risking that left foot in training quads and thinking is this the one that’ll break my foot again, I don’t know if that’s necessarily worth the risk,” Lysacek said.
