A man believed to be the “$83 Bandit” tried to rob another bank Saturday morning, officials said, but was unsuccessful.

According to the FBI and Denver police, a man presented a note demanding money at the Compass Bank on East Colfax Avenue near Albion Street at 9:15 a.m.

He left without any money. He didn’t display a weapon.

Investigators believe the same man has robbed at least nine other banks in the metro area since last March. Authorities labled him the “$83 Bandit” because he tends to ask for unusual amounts of cash.

Authorities say the suspect is 25 to 35 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and thin. He may have bad teeth.

Anyone with information about the robber is urged to call the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force at 303-629-7171, or they can remain anonymous and receive up to $2,000 by calling Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). The Denver Post
