Alec Baldwin was ready to pass on a role in the 2003 film “The Cooler” after he read in the script that his character kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach.

But his agent told him to keep reading to the part where it’s revealed the woman is a con artist with a fake pregnant belly — so he accepted the part that led to an Oscar nomination.

“Every decision I’ve made, of movies to make or not make, was agonizing,” Baldwin told a crowd of local film buffs at the Boulder Theater on Sunday night.

Baldwin was the featured guest at the sixth-annual Boulder International Film Festival, which wrapped up Sunday with an awards ceremony and tribute to Baldwin.

The festival honored Baldwin with an Award of Excellence in Acting and a film retrospective of his work and accomplishments.

In a wide ranging interview with BIFF producer Ron Bostwick, Baldwin told jokes and dished about his most memorable roles, the competitiveness of the film industry and his success as the star of NBC’s “30 Rock.”
