
Model hobby
Today and Sunday. More than 41,000 people attended the recent “Worlds Greatest Hobby on Tour” convention stop outside of Washington, D.C. Now the popular model-train event rolls into Denver and brings with it 100,000 square feet of train exhibits, a free Thomas the Tank Engine ride for kids, hundreds of booths for model train manufacturers and retailers, and demonstrations on such topics as “The Walt Disney Railroad Story” and “Making Basic Trees.” The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, free for kids 16 and under. National Western Stock Show Complex, 4655 Humboldt St.
Extreme snow sports
Feb. 27-28. Here’s an activity for anyone hyped up about the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games or who just wants to spend some quality time with Old Man Winter before he goes into hibernation. Jackson County Fairgrounds in Walden will host two days of “X-treme Mountain Racing” next weekend, featuring all levels and all ages of High Flying Sno-X Races and Drag Races. There will be grandstand seating, concessions and booths. Events start each day at 9:30 a.m., and are free and open to the public.
