Patrick White had a goal and an assist, and goalie Alex Kangas made 26 saves to lead Minnesota to a 3-0 hockey win over visiting Colorado College on Friday.

The Golden Gophers (14-15-2, 9-12-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) improved to 12-1-0 when holding opponents to two goals or fewer.

Colorado College (17-11-3, 11-9-3) failed on four power plays, ending a streak of six straight games with at least one power-play goal.

White just managed to beat the clock in the first period, scoring with a second left for a 1-0 lead.

Tigers goalie Joe Howe finished with 32 saves. He made 10 stops in the second period and kept Colorado College within a goal until Jordan Schroeder scored for the Gophers at 1:38 of the third period.

Air Force falls in overtime.

Tyler Mazzei scored 1:10 into overtime to give host Rochester Tech (19-5-1, 19-11-2 Atlantic Hockey) a 3-2 win over Air Force. Kyle De Laurell and Scott Mathis scored for the Falcons (12-13-6, 12-7-6), both on the power play. Air Force was outshot 32-26. The win increased RIT’s lead over second-place Air Force to nine points.

DU falls to No. Syracuse.

The University of Denver opened its first lacrosse season under Hall of Fame coach Bill Tierney with a 15-9 loss to the No. 1 team in the country, Syracuse, in New York.

Alex Demopoulos had four goals for No. 18 DU, and backup goalie Zander Buteux made 17 saves after subbing for starter Peter Lowell with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Belmonte-Feldman lead mixed doubles.

Jason Belmonte of Australia and Michelle Feldman of Auburn, N.Y., picked up where they left off in qualifying and combined forces in match play to earn the No. 1 qualifying position for Sunday’s stepladder finals of the Professional Bowlers Association Bayer Don and Paula Carter mixed doubles at Brunswick Zone in Wheat Ridge.

Belmonte and Feldman combined for an 11-5 Baker format match-play record and a 7,289 30-game overall pinfall Friday, giving the pair a 386-pin lead over the No. 2 qualifiers, reigning PBA player of the year Wes Malott and Shannon O’Keefe.
