Any Knicks fan treasures the memory of center Willis Reed limping onto the court for Game 7 of 1970 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. Every fan thinks Reed, who had pulled a thigh muscle in Game 5, was confident in his ability that night. Not so. “I’m thinking, ‘I’m in a heck of a predicament here,’ ” Reed, 67, recalled last week. ” ‘I’m basically playing for a championship with one leg against Wilt Chamberlain, the greatest center in the game.’ ” Reed, retired and living in Louisiana, and that 1970 title team will be honored during halftime tonight at Madison Square Garden.
