A strong winter storm will continue to bring snow to most of Colorado, dumping upwards of a foot of snow in the southwest and west central mountains.

In the metro area, the National Weather Service expects snow to continue through early evening on Monday, bringing a total of 2 to 4 inches by that time. That snow will be on top off the 2 to 4 inches that has already fallen in the area over the past 24 hours.

Areas in the south are seeing much more snow. Wolf Creek Pass already has 25 inches and is expected to get 8 to 10 more inches.

The fresh snow amounts have created an avalanche danger in some areas. An avalanche warning remains in effect through noon on Monday for the Elk Mountains north of the divide, and Basalt, Red Table and Hardscrabble mountains.

A small avalanche early this morning closed Colorado Highway 65 at Grand Mesa for several hours. It is now re-opened.
