A Denver-based “credit-repair” company sued Monday by the Colorado Attorney General said the lawsuit came “as a complete surprise” because it has spent hundreds of hours in the past three years working with the attorney general to develop its programs.

“Veracity Credit Consultants firmly believes that it operates in full compliance with the letter and the spirit of both the Colorado and federal law,” said Alex Gury, general counsel to the Denver-based firm.

In the lawsuit, Colorado Attorney General John Suthers accused Veracity of charging upfront fees, which he alleged are illegal under state and federal law.
