ASPEN, Colo.—A backcountry skier killed in a Colorado avalanche has been identified as 60-year-old John Joseph Kelley, an Aspen carpenter.
The Pitkin County coroner’s office says Kelley died Tuesday from suffocation when he was buried in the slide near a backcountry hut outside Aspen.
He was in a group of eight skiers. Authorities say no one else was injured.
