For movie buffs and celebrity watchers it might as well be Super Bowl Sunday: the Academy Awards.
Oscar parties will be springing up over the next couple of days. It’s a fine tradition: Gather at a friend’s house, maybe get gussied up, talk trash about the super-rich and glamorous movie stars on TV.
Even casual film fans can get in on the fun, especially if there’s some friendly wagering involved.
Sometimes, however, it’s fun to break from tradition and get out of the house-party circuit. If so, there are ways to take the Oscar party on the road and live it up, Hollywood- style.
On the high-end side, the Denver Film Society’s “Party With Oscar” shindig at the Museum of Contemporary Art (1485 Delgany St.) is the place to be for Tinseltown glitz.
Guests walk the red carpet to start their evening — so dress to impress.
Once inside, the gala features live feeds of the awards on televisions throughout the galleries. Sip on cocktails and nibble on hors d’oeuvres while watching the show, and gaze at fine art during boring categories and commercial breaks.
The party’s most expensive tickets were sold out at press time — good news for the rest of us. “Featured Player” tickets, at $100 each, were still available. The tickets include appetizers, a dessert buffet and three drinks. The ticket price is reduced if you can collect a large group.

Caveau Wine Bar (450 E. 17th Ave.) is throwing an Oscar-watching party of its own Sunday. The Red Carpet Party will be more laid-back, but still a little sparkly.
Guests are encouraged to dress up like their favorite characters from nominated movies. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Best of all, the party is a charity event to benefit the New Genesis homeless program.
The fun starts early, at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person, or $80 for two. The ticket price includes appetizers and your first drink. Get tickets in advance by stopping by Caveau. For more information, call Caveau at 303-861-3747.
Another fun charity event this weekend.
Ante Up, a poker tournament to benefit SAME Cafe, on Saturday at the Mercury Cafe. Go all-in with live music, door prizes, drink specials and dancing (after the poker, of course). It’s $50 to play, $25 to attend. Visit for more information.
Beta’s massive move.
Tonight is the launch of “Forever Fridays,” Beta’s (1909 Blake St.) new, pop-friendly weekly that’s made for the masses.
“I feel like Denver is ready for a pop, top-40 dance night done in a intelligent way,” says Beta owner Brad Roulier. “I would like to have a few different crowds that love Beta, not just the hard-core electronic-music enthusiasts that support us primarily right now.”
Resident DJs Brian Howe and Jon Shares will spin hot dance hits mixed with “cutting- edge” mashups and remixes. Once a month, DJ Frank and DJ Petey will hop on the decks, too.
There’s no cover for ladies. Dudes gt in for $5 before 11 p.m., $10 after 11.
Another hot ticket at Beta this weekend: British house DJ and producer BT spins on Saturday. Tickets are $15 at tickets.
Ginger vodka.
Apparently the world needs more flavors of vodka. Acai berry and passionfruit aren’t enough. Now, there is ginger.
Tonight, Suite Two Hundred (1427 Larimer St.) celebrates the launch of Skyy Vodka’s new Skyy Infusions Ginger.
The launch party will be held in the club’s Marquis lounge, with free Skyy Ginger drinks from 9 to 11 p.m.
The party is open to the public. Just RSVP to guestlist@lotusclubs.com.
