COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A wiretap error means a Colorado Springs man will go free after being sentenced to 96 years on charges of supplying methamphetamine.

Thomas Lynn O’Hara III was convicted in 2007 of taking part in a drug ring that moved 10 to 15 pounds of meth every week from Colorado Springs to Mesa County.

But the Colorado Court of Appeals overturned O’Hara’s conviction this week. The court ruled that Mesa County prosecutors erred in getting the correct permission for a wiretap.

Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger said Friday he will ask for a rehearing by the panel and may appeal it to the Colorado Supreme Court.
