After a lethargic first half in which it let Grandview shoot 60 percent from the field, the Fairview boys basketball team was fortunate to be trailing by only three points.
How quickly a potential disaster morphed into a comfortable 72-54 win for the Knights in a Class 5A Great 8 game Friday at the Denver Coliseum.
Senior Darragh O’Neil poured in 35 points — he was 15-for-16 from the free-throw line — and Fairview drilled five quick 3-pointers at the start of the second half after going 0-for-7 from behind the arc in the first half. The Knights (21-5) will play Aurora Central in a semifinal Wednesday at CU’s Coors Events Center.
Kevin Gausman led Grandview (16-10) with 19 points, but 17 came before intermission.
