PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Mets shortstop Jose Reyes plans to undergo tests in New York after doctors in Florida discovered a thyroid imbalance, the team said Friday.

Reyes, who appeared in only 36 games last season because of a hamstring injury, will have tests Monday and it could take up to 48 hours after for doctors to receive the results. Reyes is not expected to take part in any physical activity while he is gone.

“We’re going to be conservative,” general manager Omar Minaya said.

The thyroid is a gland in the neck that produces hormones that help control metabolism.

“We’re not talking about my leg, nothing like that, we’re talking about my health,” Reyes said, “so I have to be concerned about it.”

Reyes said this is the first time an imbalance was found in a blood test, and maintained that he does not feel “haunted” by injuries after being summoned to New York.

“I don’t want to say unlucky because leg-wise everything feels good,” he said. “But this is different. We’re not talking about an injury on the field.”

Indians’ Brown, Grilli hurt

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Pitcher Jason Grilli and promising rookie Jordan Brown were injured at Cleveland’s training camp.

Grilli, a right-hander, had his right leg immobilized as he rode a cart to the trainer’s room after getting hurt during agility drills.

Brown, a first baseman-outfielder, got into a cart on his own after being injured while shagging flyballs.

They were taken for MRI examinations, and the Indians expect to issue an update today.
