A fight boiled into a small riot early Sunday when police had to use pepper spray to break up the scene outside a downtown nightclub.

The fight at the Syn Nightclub, formerly the 13 Pure nightclub at 217 E. Pikes Peak Ave., broke out inside the club at 1:45 a.m.

When Colorado Springs police arrived, they saw injured employees leaving the club and trying to force unruly patrons outside, according to a police report.

Police said about 75 to 100 people in the club were involved and continued fighting when forced out of the club.

In all, more than 22 police cruisers were called to the scene to help break up the fight with pepper spray.

Witnesses told police a fight broke out in the main room of the club and then several fights throughout the rest of the club started about the same time.

Inside the club, police said, they found a victim on the floor with multiple cuts to his chest, possibly from a broken bottle. He was taken to the hospital, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Six club employees were treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released.

In recent months, the club has been the site of several violent incidents.

The club’s liquor license is also under review because of alleged alcohol sales to minors.

Police have not said whether they made any arrests.
