• Registration is open for the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Courage Classic cycling event, which will be run July 31 through Aug. 2; the three-day, 157-mile journey begins and ends in Leadville; last year’s event, which sold out in May, raised $2.3 million for the foundation; participation fees are $50 and $95. or 720-777-7499

• Road rides each weekend in the south Denver area hosted by Highlands Ranch Cycling Club; intermediate to advanced; two to five hours; helmet required; free.

• Road ride each Saturday morning led by the staff of Bicycle Pedal’r bike shops in Highlands Ranch; 20 to 30 miles; weather permitting; open to intermediate and advanced riders.

• Road bike rides; weekday evenings and every weekend along the Front Range; 25 to 125 miles; intermediate to advanced; helmet required; hosted by the Rocky Mountain Cycling Club.

HIKING/BACKPACKING

Deadline to register for Wilderness Trekking School; comprehensive course on hiking; includes instruction about on- and off-trail, map and compass, nutrition, gear, weather, handling an emergency; five Tuesday lectures and five field sessions (days vary); presented by Colorado Mountain Club; classes start April 6 at the American Mountaineering Center, Golden; $90.
