NEW YORK — A prosecutor says the government has an extensive confession from an Eritrean charged with providing support to a Somali terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher LaVigne made the revelation during a plea proceeding Tuesday for Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed in Manhattan. Ahmed’s lawyer entered a not-guilty plea.
Ahmed was brought to the U.S. on Saturday from Nigeria on charges that he supported al-Shabaab, a violent extremist group in Somalia.
