LAS VEGAS—Utah’s Taryn Wicijowski led all scorers with 24 points as Utah posted a 63-40 victory over Air Force in a first-round game of the Mountain West Conference women’s tournament Tuesday.
Kalee Whipple was next for the No. 4 seed Utes (19-10) with 16 points. Janita Badon added eight points, all in the first half, and Halie Sawyer had six.
Kathleen Schjodt scored 12 points and Kelsey Berger and Raimee Beck had 10 each for the ninth-seeded Falcons (3-26).
Although Air Force was better from behind the 3-point line—32 percent (6-for-19) to Utah’s 22 percent (2-for-9), the Utes were much better overall from the field. Utah made 55 percent (26-for-47) of its outside shots while the Falcons made only 26 percent (13-for-50).
Liz Dunsworth scored the game’s first basket for Air Force’s only lead. Wicijowski’s layup tied it and the Utes eventually led 21-13 at the half.
