Just days after Kathryn Bigelow became to the first woman to win an Academy Award for best director, a woman was hired to coach a varsity football team. Natalie Randolph will be introduced today as the head coach at Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C. Randolph, a 29-year-old science teacher, is believed to be one of the first women, if not the first, to coach a high school varsity football team in the United States. No, Goldie Hawn in the 1986 release of “Wildcats” doesn’t count. Said one D.C. coach: “All I know is, I don’t want to be the first one to lose to her.”
